A Timeless Lesson from ‘A Christmas Carol’

A Christmas Carol is an immensely popular novel, prescribed in school curriculums. Written by Charles Dickens, the novella upholds the message of kindness, generosity and charity. Students at Kaur Online Education study this book to improve their reading skills and to learn how to be kind and generous.

The main character of the book is Ebenezer Scrooge, a businessman who puts all his energy towards making money and does not enjoy Christmas. He treats others in an unfriendly manner and calls out "Bah! Humbug!" when someone mentions anything associated with Christmas. He also does not treat his employee Bob Cratchit kindly either.

One day Scrooge has a very large experience containing ghosts. He sees the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, who tells Scrooge if he does not stop being a greedy person, there will be serious consequences for him. Jacob Marley then tells him that three special spirits will be visiting him. Scrooge then meets The Ghost Of Christmas Past, The Ghost Of Christmas Present, and The Ghost Of Christmas Future. The spirits take him on a journey through time.

During the journey, Scrooge is able to see things that have taken place in both his own life and in the lives of the people he knows. He finds out that if he continues to remain a greedy person, he will have an unhappy future. Scrooge is a transformed human being at the end, becoming a symbol of transformation.
